Fontainebleau is one of the most famous bouldering place in France. I have the fondest memories as a child of picnics under the high and heavy canopy, the very unique salty smell of the sand that covers the ground and colours your feet in black, sunbeams shining through the leaves and long discussions about the best way to find your way up the rocks. We would spend hours navigating the wild and high ferns until dusk looking for the perfect climb. Sometimes squirrels would keep us company, rushing up and down the trees. Other times you would watch out for wild pigs.
I’ve always loved the climbing community you find out there, very much international. As you walk around you hear Dutch, English, Italian, sometimes French. All the passionate climbers come here to train for the higher alpine summits or just for the love of these special rocks.
Recently I came back with some family members and friends who are very good climbers. I enjoyed watching them dancing on the rocks.
