There are three important things to consider when choosing the best moment for your session:
The light
This is often my first consideration. The most beautiful light usually appears early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and in shaded areas where the light remains soft and flattering.
The flow of your day
The goal is to find a moment that feels effortless — not something that adds stress or takes you away from enjoying your celebration.
Your emotions
The feeling of your couple session changes depending on when it happens. Some couples love the excitement and anticipation before the ceremony, while others prefer a quieter moment later in the day when they can truly slow down and reconnect.
That is why this decision is worth thinking about together before your wedding day.
Different moments for your couple session
Before the ceremony: a first look
Some couples choose to see each other before the ceremony for an intimate first look.
I love this option when it feels right for you. It creates a quiet moment away from your guests, allowing you to fully experience your emotions together before the celebration begins.
Of course, this is a personal choice and not every couple feels comfortable seeing each other before the ceremony.
Between the ceremony and reception
This is a very common option, especially for weddings in France where the civil ceremony, religious ceremony and reception may take place in different locations.
While your guests travel to the reception venue, we can take a few moments together to create beautiful images in a meaningful location nearby.
With good planning beforehand, we can make the most of this time while ensuring you still spend plenty of time with your loved ones.
During golden hour
This is often a favourite moment for photographers because the light becomes soft, warm and beautifully romantic.
The golden hour happens approximately one hour before sunset, although the exact timing changes greatly depending on the season.
It is perfect for creating more intimate and dreamy images. During summer weddings, it also offers a cooler and more comfortable moment after the heat of the day.
The only challenge is that golden hour often happens during dinner or important reception moments. A simple solution is often to step outside for a few minutes while your guests are seated and enjoying their meal — creating a few unforgettable images without missing the celebration.
